Getting Good Sleep – The Kid Edition

Sleep is important for everybody, but especially for children while they are growing. A person needs a different amount of sleep depending on how old they are, with younger children needing much more rest than somebody who is in their 20s or 30s. You will want a room that is able to meet your child's needs as long as they are living in your home, as we have discussed elsewhere on this blog.

If you are raising small kids, you know that it can be a hassle to get your little ones into bed each night, but you need to persevere in order to make sure that their development is kept on track. Preschoolers will need anywhere from 10 to 13 hours of sleep each night, while school-aged kids between the ages of six and 13 can get by with just nine.

One of the best ways to make sure that your child gets a quality night sleep is by investing in the right mattress, a comfortable sleeping surface that will also be functional as they grow up. The size of the mattress is important, as you don't want a small child sleeping on a King — a twin, double or full one will suffice. With small children, just getting them to sleep can feel like a battle. There are, however, plenty of ways in which you can ensure that your child will fall asleep soon after hitting the pillow each and every night. A pattern will ensure their sleep cycle is well maintained. Having a consistent bedtime routine is also important, as it will help the child wind down their day and be ready for bed. You should keep the room cool and dark, and not allow any electronics in the space. Distractions from a television or computer will only impede the bedtime process and keep your child awake longer.
